Consumption Bird

Finally finished printing this one. Had to take a break and get a larger aluminum screen to print the final keyplate as trying it with a large old wood screen= disaster.
I'm really happy with the way this turned out, I was hoping to have it look more like a litho and drawing with the linework and I think I was successful.

Here's a closeup of the head; all the little subtle layering really worked nicely , 12 colors in all , signed and numbered edition of 100 on 22 x 30 Stonehenge rag.

available in my Etsy shop.

Jeff Tady

My friend and comrade Jeff Tady recently opened up an Etsy shop to showcase his prints. He listed his first one, Hourglass, which is a 6 color screenprint. This one is gorgeous in person, believe me. To see his paintings and drawings and prints, go to his Myspace.

Of Uncool interview

Pierre Richardson in Toronto has a blog where he writes about and interviews artists among other things. He just posted an interview with me. Check it out here.

Okkervil River Poster

This is a 3 color poster for Okkervil River's fantastic show with the equally fantastic Damien Jurado in Chicago last night. The edition was 75 s/n. Only available through Okkervil's site, sooon. Look for the shirts at the merch table on this tour bearing the same imagery...

I will have a more complex 6 color art print available this week of this image as well. The title is "Search Party"

Do the Disaster

This is a 5 color screenprint I made as part of an art exhibition/cd project for Chicago Pop powerhouse May or May Not. The art is paired with the song "Do the Disaster" and is printed in the booklet.
It is shown here in its hand-screenprinted glory. 22 x 22 inches, 5 colors.

Consumption Bird Layers 5 and 6

Layer 5 : Transparent Gold:

Layer 6: Tangerine. The photo was taken in my studio, so the gold looks washed out on this pic. The houses are going to get 3 more colors and then I'll hit it with the line art keyline.

2nd color - Consumption Bird

2nd color is a pearlescent whiteish/yellow. This picture is not the best representation , but it will do.

Here's a closeup to show the color better.

Mixing ink for the next 4 layers

"Consumption bird" process

Finally got around to figuring out the colors to use for this art print I've had planned out for quite a while. Not sure of the final amount, probably at least 8-10 . Maybe more. I tend to treat art prints like paintings ,so I always end up adding more than I anticipate.

Started off with a charcoal drawing that I worked some watercolor inks into, sketching out the general colors. Originally was going to go for something really bright, but I've since changed my mind.

The paper is great, 22 x 30 inch stonehenge rising. The paper takes the ink really well, nice and tactile, soaks in nicely. I'm printing an edition of 100, with 5 artist proofs.

Here's the first color. Split fountain, ochre-ish color into a brighter hue.

Black Keys June Tour Line art

Well, its been a while since I posted here on the blog, a situation which will be rectified beginning now... Very busy with tour poster designs and printing for the Black Keys, Low, and Pelican- as well as new art prints which will be obnoxious for the number of colors in them (How's 24 sound?)

Here is the newest poster I'm printing this week- A tour poster for the always excellent Black Keys. This is the original scratchboard and Ink drawing on clayboard, 18 x 24 inches. Wooden/feathered seamonsters with marching drums ALWAYS fit in for a summer tour. Right? Right?
