My copies from the edition are up now in my shop.

Glen Hansard @ Bonnaroo 2013

       Glen Hansard at Bonnaroo Music Festival 2013.  3 colors , 18 x 24 inches. Edition of 150.

I wanted to pay homage to Glen's music by depicting a landscape that paid tribute to the emotional quality of his solo lp.  It seemed fitting to depict a very expressionistic, painterly version of the mountains of Tennessee and Kentucky, since I've been driving though them the last few years to make my way down to Bonnaroo.  Pretty simple idea and I think it worked well in this case.  The trick with landscape is to understand the power of the emotion you are trying to depict and make sure it fits the music .

Swans at Bonnaroo 2013

Swans official poster for their appearance @ Bonnaroo Festival.  3 colors, 18 x 24 inches, edition of 150.

The idea for the image came from stumbling across a copy of a self published art anthology zine I put out 20 years ago called "Chop Fold and Grind"  The image was similar in composition, with an isolated dog-like creature in a clearing with tall trees behind it.  I always thought the image could look way better and when I found this the other week, I instantly felt that a new version of this idea would fit with Swans music- brooding, dark, laden with emotion and tension, yet still clinging to hope.  That's what I felt when I listened to "The Seer" for the first time, I mean, what an incredible record!  After that , it all just fell into place with drawing the image out, it went very smoothly.

These prints are available now in my store.

Alabama Shakes @ Sloss Furnaces, Birmingham

I was super happy to be asked by Alabama Shakes to make a poster for their 2 night stand at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama!  Continuing with the theme of animals/industrial materials I went with this rustic Owlcat made of wood, brick, feathers, and fur.

The poster is 18 x 24 inches and is a signed and numbered edition of 280.  Red, metallic gold , and dark brown/black were the colors used. This was printed in my shop, Ground Up Press on a Cameo 30.

Tomahawk at 9:30 club

I was asked to  make a poster for Tomahawk's show last night in Washington DC at the legendary 9:30 club.  I was stoked to make it , as anything Duane Denison does is something I want to be involved in if at all possible.  I had fun with the animal forms here, combining Native American icons of the Buffalo and the Crow into this fine looking dude.  Its a three color poster, and is a s/n edition of 200.

Peter Brötzmann and Joe McPhee

I was fortunate enough to make posters for two stops by some of my favorite musicians on the entire planet.  Peter Brötzmann and Joe McPhee have been playing in the duet form recently and it is truly incredible to see the interplay between these two different and amazing improvisers.  The first Poster was for a show in Austin, Tx put on by Epistrophy Arts, which was preceded by a performance for the elementary class there (!), and the second was for a show at the new Chicago space, Constellation.  The Constellation show featured not only the duet but a quartet with the flat-out amazing Kent Kessler and Hamid Drake.

These posters are available in my shop now.
