Year of the Rooster!
It was obvious for me to publish "Year of the Rooster" after the Dragon print, seeing as the artwork was just waiting there for me...so here it is. Turned out really sweet- I am so addicted to French's poptone paper. I just ordered some great stock for the Tiger and Horse prints next week. Then its on to Oxen and Rat!
You can pick up the print in my etsy shop as usual.
Thanks to all of you who have been buying up the prints and mystery tubes. Its been an insane week of packing about 200 or so orders since Saturday. Thank you for keeping us busy! I have to keep NPR turned off right now- every report on the economy makes me break out in hives. MUCH better to listen to old Rodan records, really.
Other goings on...There is an opening tonight at Morpho Gallery in Chicago featuring work from Steve Walters, myself, Keith Herzik and artists from Spudnik press among others. If you are in the area of Foster and Damen tonight, stop by and say hi! I'll be there with the ninos early in the eve.

More Free shipping! Last of the Mystery tubes!
I had a free shipping offer in my Etsy shop this weekend and it was pretty great- I'm extending it through Dec 20th for all North American Customers. I also still have 20 or so of the amazing 6 for $30 mystery tubes. These are seriously the best surprises I've ever put together so check it out.
I'm also putting some OG original scratchboard poster drawings up this week in the shop and in the GP classifieds over on gigposters, so check that out as well, those will go fast as I never really sell original poster drawings. I'm putting up work for Explosions in the sky, The Black Keys, and more....

Sundays at home
The winter is arriving in Chicago today: walking with my daughters to the bagel shop this am we were greeted with wet flakes of melting snow. I tell myself to remember, this is the easy part of winter.
Must. Start. Running. Outside.
The rest of today has been spent playing with the girls for a while, printing out 3 lbs of mailing labels for print orders and working on a few new art prints I'm putting out this week.
Here's a preview of one. When I made the poster for Explosions in the Sky's Chicago show earlier this year I always thought in the back of my head I would make a scratchboard version of it as a stand alone print. So far, so good. More pics tomorrow.
Saw a great show on Friday at All Rise Gallery on Grand ave. My dear friends Jeff Tady and Todd Rittman showed new work; Tady showed his recent collages (mind=Blown) , while Todd showed 3 gigantic murals he painted on the gallery walls using only house paint and house-painting materials. They are expressionistic, awesome, and obtuse to say the least.

Black Keys London
Well, I've been incredibly sick since election day- the only thing that made me feel better from this virus was obviously the outcome! GoBama!
I've been super busy catching up- here's one of the things I made- A poster for the Black Keys' show in London- 4 colors on French Gumdrop Green paper. This thing is sick with metallic details....
Up in the Etsy shop after midnight tonight!

Conquistador- Bronze Age Colorway
I've wanted to make a new colorway print of Conquistador for a long time now and I finally made time to do it. The first edition has been pretty much sold out ( I have 3 left ) and I thought the time was nigh....
So, this one is 6 colors, all bronzes, coppers, reds and yellows and gold. Lots of overprinting goodness. I made all new separations for each layer which was fun for me as it added an element of improvisation that will keep this edition unique. Printed on 22 x 30 stonehenge "sand" 100% Rag paper, it is signed and numbered in an edition of 75.
After 4 colors:
Printing the 5th color:
Finished!
For sale NOW in my Etsy shop.

Prints, drawings, art giveaway, all sorts of stuff
So, this is a long post as I didn't really post last week at all. Too busy printing and drawing!
The week started off with shows at the Metro, and Schuba's in Chicago that I made posters for . Okkervil River on Monday at the Metro, and Crooked Fingers at Schuba's on Tuesday.
The Okkervil river poster sold out at the show, I do have more of the edition available , although they are selling extremely fast.
The Crooked Fingers poster turned out nice. So nice that I decided to make an art print version as well!
I also decided to run this contest to give away an original piece of scratchboard art, this one used for the Black Keys Boston Poster last spring. I am selling 50 random art tubes, each containing a random keys poster from the spring, a random awesome art print, and 2 other random posters or shop test prints. They are truly a steal!! I have 10 slots left , so hurry up and buy one, you could be the proud owner of this piece!
And Lastly, drawings. Lots and lots of drawings. I'm putting up 5-10 every day this week in my etsy shop , all for 50-125 bucks each. Super cheap , yes. Super great, yes. Many of these are subtle little colored pencil mixed media ink drawings, so jump on it!

The Black Keys at the Ryman Auditorium
I was stoked to get to make a poster for this show. Wish I could be there to a) See the BK play a historic place like the Ryman and b) See JESCO WHITE, the Dancing Outlaw. (See video below!)
SO there are 2 versions- the standard version on French Orange paper, and the um, other version on this nice deep French Brown Construction paper. Available NOW in my Etsy Shop. Posters are 19 x 25 inches, signed and numbered.
And Now Ladies and Gentlemen: Mr Jesco White:
Robert Pollard's Boston Spaceships
I wish I could have actually gone to this show tonight....The new record is great!
Ah well. Here's the show poster- 4 colors, 18 x 24. 2 split fountains and a metallic gold highlight layer. I'll admit I laughed a lot when printing this poster. As usual this poster looks about 20 times better than this jpg.
Available now in my Etsy shop.

The Renegade Rainout sale!
So, because of good ole Hurrican Ike sending immense amounts of rain through the country directly hitting Chicago for 3 days straight, the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago was a bit of a bust for those like me selling art on paper. I have a huge stack of test prints, misprints and regular 'ol posters that I put out on a $5 table each year and it is like leading lambs to the slaughter. Chicago's loss is your gain- Each tube will have 4-5 prints and posters some of which may include the Godspeed test prints from 2001 which are pretty badass.
You can buy em here.

Just workin'
This week is a busy one. Printing posters for upcoming shows by Robert Pollard's Boston Spaceships (excited to see this show, the record sounds great- has a GBV/Who "Sell-out" vibe to it), Okkervil River, and the first of 3 Black Keys posters (Ryden theater in Nashville, Akron, and London shows). A full plate of posters to add to the already full plate of proper art prints I'm producing. Here's a sneak peek at the Okkervil River Metro poster- this is the finished scratchboard/ink drawing; and as well here is a pic from the Pollard/Boston Spaceships board before I finished.

2 Great Art Shows
I took a break from drawing flying houses and heads of dogs to see one of 2 great art shows opening tonight in Illinois. I'll talk about the one I didn't get to go to first; American Cosmos- Jeff Tady has his first public showing of his collage series opening tonight at St. Ambrose University in Davenport Iowa (Okay, its across the river from Illinois). He will have 10 collages on display along with 20 automatic drawings he's been posting on his drawing blog. I really wish I could have been at this show tonight. Jeff is not only a dear friend, he is one of the true art heroes I've met in this lifetime. His versatility in image making , whether it be in painting, drawing, or collage is truly stunning. These collages are prosaic, funny, and profound. Keep checking his blog as he has made archival print copies of the 10 works which he promises he will have up for sale soon.
The show I did go see earlier this evening was at Tony Fitzpatrick's studio , Big Cat Press, in honor of the late artist Steve Griff. The show was an exhibition of Griff's graphite drawings from the last year of his life and they are truly fantastic. Intense, well rendered and energetic drawings that make me wish I had met the man behind them.
The show was rounded out with excellent work from Julie Murphy and Dmitry Samarov. Julie had some really nice work on display, including these insane little drawings on Manila Folders which looked like some sort of lost archival system tracking the development of mythological monsters with mirth and ball point pen. Great stuff. I met Julie during the book-signing for Beasts!, the collection of creatures edited by Jacob Covey of which we both contributed to. Julie promises to contribute a print to the exhibition of the same name that Jacob is putting together in honor of the 2nd Beasts! volume being published, so I look forward to seeing what she makes for that.
Dmitry Samarov's work is ubiquitous in Chicago- He has shown his paintings at the Rainbo Club, the Artist Project, and in many other numerous settings; His paintings are beautiful and improvisational. His site is a must-read; not only for the great artwork ( I'm a big fan of his ink drawings- kind of an ashcan Pettibone) but the fantastic ramblings. It was a pleasure to meet Dmitry this evening, while corraling Ella, my 3 year old, away from the heaping pile of Oreo cookies on the table.
Thanks again to Tony Fitzpatrick for opening up his studio as an "Artist Incubator", as he put it, Chicago needs more of this- artists putting on their own shows.

Sam Verrill has organized a great show of prints for the last 2 years called Screens 'n Spokes- Artists donate a run of prints which are sold to help raise money for MS research. In addition Sam and Jess have a bike team to also raise money.
In thier own words: "Screens 'N' Spokes is all about awesome art and a great cause. Gigposters and gearheads unite in our mission to end the devastating effects of Multiple Sclerosis.
All proceeds benefit the National MS Society on behalf of Team Screens 'N' Spokes. Learn more about our bike team and art show at http://screensnspokes.blogspot.com

In Process- Envy/Thursday LP
I was commissioned by Jeremy DeVine and Temporary Residence Records to create the artwork for an upcoming LP/CD Release for Thursday (new Jersey) and Envy (Japan). The art direction is right up my alley...create a tornado of CROWS tearing through the landscape. Uh, yes, where do I sign up? I'm finishing up the gatefold illustration now, here's a few peeks at the cover art process scratchboard illo:
