Coffee, coffee , coffee

My friend Sam Verrill puts on a series of print shows benefiting coffee co-operatives in Latin America- the shows are in the Philadelphia area and feature artwork from many of the best poster makers around today. I contributed this piece "Never Waste A Drop"- It turned out whimsical and fun. 4 colors on French's Safety Orange Paper, including an impossible to see, yet VERY NECESSARY layer of transparent metallic gold ink. 19 x 25, edition of 200.

The print is available now in my Etsy shop.

And....we're back!

I took some time off blogging as I was swamped swamped swamped with work and houseprep.

Many prints and a few new floors installed later I have lots to put up.

The last month has been exciting , working on new posters for the Vandermark Five extended edition show at the Green Mill, Sonic Youth poster for the first date on the new tour at the Vic, X, Shipping News, Bottomless Pit/Poison Arrows and a slew more , including a poster for the (recently reformed) Three Mile Pilot Tour!!!

Also about ready to unveil some new prints in the Colonies series and (Finally) finish up the "Last American Bear" print I've wanted to get caught up on.

Festival season is in high gear- I will have a tent at Pitchfork's Flatstock show ,right next to the Lemon Shake-ups and 40 other amazing print artists.

The Beer I designed the label for , Apocalypse Cow is almost ready for release and yes, there IS a poster coming out for the artwork. Stay tuned, LOTS OF IMAGES heading your way!

Mono with the Wordless Music Orchestra

I was recently hired by Temporary Residence Records to make a poster for one of Mono's performances as part of the Wordless Music Series on May 9th at Le Poisson Rouge with the Wordless Music Orchestra. I was obviously excited to do this! Mono's music is powerful and sometimes ethereal , so it was a challenge to come up with the right imagery at first- I ended up with a comic ( to me) take on the piece "Battle to Heaven" off of their latest LP "Hymn to the Immortal Wind".

Here is the Scratchboard drawing and the final 5 color 19 x 25 print:

The print really worked well. The 4th layer is a split fountain of tranparent metallic gold to Tranparent metallic silver, so there is a really nice patina of shinyness just below the rough surface of the keyline drawing.

The Thing: final

Well, I fell off the wagon documenting the Thing drawing and printing. If I can get the time later, I'll update this post and add it all tonight. Very busy editioning new art prints and printing my Mono poster for the May 9th show in NYC. And working on a pretty crazy poster for Mogwai. And the rest of the excuses I use for not blogging more frequently!

Regardless, here is the tour poster for Scandinavia's favorite trio of improvisers, The Thing. 4 color screenprint on Cougar Natural, 17.5 x 23.5 inches. The Yellow-ish layer is a metallic gold (which accounts for the flashing at the bottom), so yes, we have metallic green trees in this one, which is ALWAYS nice.

I have a larger (22 x 30) very limited run art print of this image in a different colorway coming out tomorrow....so stay tuned.

Pandora's Box Art Print and other things

Worked up a small art print edition of the image from the recent poster I made for Witch. Pandora's Box is a 4 color screenprint with metalic gold inks. 19 x 25 paper size , printed on French Chocolate Brown Construction. signed and numbered edition of 80. I've included a couple of photos here in hopes that I can somewhat give an idea of how the color pops off the paper. This looks really nice in person. I also made a subscriber only edition in Deep Crimson that also looks pretty damn sweet.

I have this edition for sale in my Etsy shop, natch.

Printing has proceeded on "airlift" , more updates tomorrow. Here's a peek at the first layer, as subtle Blue split fountain.

Today! Live! Layer! Tennis!

Our friends at Coudal Partners invited the very talented Phineas Jones and myself to partake in todays Layer Tennis Match.
We will be doing the all-analog edition as we push paper BACK AND FORTH AT EACH OTHER in a battle to the finish. Or something. Either way what better way to while away the hours of 2-4 pm today? Should be fun.

"Ash" art print

As promised, here is the art print edition of the MBD poster image.

Ash is a 3 color screenprint. Printed on Stonehenge Cream and White 100% Rag paper in editions of 125, this print is massive at 22 x 30 inches. I ended up hand printing this due to a few complications with the size of this image creating some havoc with my autopress. When you have to hand print something, make it count by doing something REALLY FREAKING HUGE. Good to get a workout in on a spring-like day in any instance.

The vacuum table at the shop came in very very handy with this one.

Metallic Copper/Gold edition:

Metallic Blue/Silver Edition:

These are both for sale now in my Etsy shop.

I am working on the final colors to get "Rebirth" published this week as well, target date Friday. Here is the final Drawing and the first 3 layers of color:
